Back in May, I looked out from our front door and saw this little bird perched on our lamp post. I took a picture because it caught my attention. It was God's beautiful creation and peace to me; that's what it represented to my heart.
Looking back at it now, I can't help but think about how God sometimes uses the simplest things in His creation to remind us of the greatest truths.
This little bird didn't have to come inside my house to get my attention..God brought the reminder right to my doorstep.
Jesus often used birds to teach us about the Father's care. He said: “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap... yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” — Matthew 6:26
That little bird sitting peacefully on the lamp post wasn't worried about tomorrow. It wasn't carrying yesterday's burdens. It was simply resting where it had landed. And sometimes I believe God is telling us to do the same.
Rest where I have you. Trust Me with what you cannot control. Stop worrying about tomorrow. I am already there.
We can become so consumed with what needs fixing, what might happen, what hasn't happened yet, and what we're praying for God to change that we forget something important:
The same God who watches over the smallest bird is watching over us.
And I love where this bird chose to land—on a light. That spoke to my heart too.
Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:14)
In a world filled with darkness, fear, confusion, and uncertainty, God has called His children to keep shining. We don't have to understand everything happening around us to be a light. We simply have to remain close to Jesus and faithfully stand where He has placed us.
Sometimes God's biggest reminders come through the smallest things.
A bird on a lantern. A quiet morning on the porch. A moment that makes you stop and look. And perhaps a gentle reminder from your Heavenly Father: “If My eye is on the sparrow, you can be certain My eye is on you.” 🐦 💙
