Enough For Today! (A continuation from the previous blog post!)

Key Scripture: Exodus 16:16–20

“Let no man leave of it till the morning.” — Exodus 16:19

The children of Israel were in the wilderness, and they were worried about what they were going to eat. God heard their cries and promised to provide bread from heaven—manna. But His provision came with instructions.

Each person was to gather only what they needed for that day. God told them not to keep any of it until morning. Yet Exodus 16:20 says that some of them didn't listen. They over-collected and tried to save the extra manna for the next day.

And what happened? It bred worms and stank.

They were trying to hold onto today's provision, because they were worried about tomorrow's need.

Their problem wasn't that God hadn't provided enough. Their problem was that they weren't completely convinced He would provide again tomorrow. Over-collecting the manna was more than storing extra food—it revealed a struggle to trust God's daily provision.

Jesus later taught us to pray:

“Give us this day our daily bread.” — Matthew 6:11

Notice He said daily bread.

Sometimes God doesn't give us enough to get three months ahead because He's teaching us to walk with Him one day at a time.

We want enough strength for the entire journey.

God gives strength for today.

We want all the answers before we take the first step. God gives enough light for the next step.

We want provision stored up so we don't have to wonder about tomorrow. God says, “Trust Me again tomorrow.”

The Israelites had to wake up every morning believing there would be fresh manna waiting for them. Yesterday's manna couldn't sustain today's journey. They needed fresh provision from God.

And sometimes we do too. We try to store up enough strength, enough answers, enough security, and enough control so that we won't have to depend on God tomorrow.

But sometimes the very thing we're trying to stockpile is the thing God wants us to receive fresh from Him every day.

Paul heard God say: “My grace is sufficient for thee.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9

Sufficient means enough.

You may have just enough grace for today.

Just enough strength for today's battle.

Just enough peace for today's worry.

Just enough provision for today's need.

And that's okay. Because tomorrow has its own manna. Don't let fear make you try to collect tomorrow's manna today.

If God provided yesterday, and He's providing today, you can trust that when tomorrow comes, there will be fresh manna waiting.

You don't need tomorrow's manna today.

You need today's manna and faith for tomorrow.
