They say, “What goes up must come down.” If you’ve ever ridden a roller coaster, you know that feeling all too well. As a season pass holder for the second year in a row, to a theme park a state over from where we live, I've grown quite fond of enjoying and riding roller coasters. You slowly climb that first big hill, higher and higher, until suddenly—you drop! Life can feel a lot like that.
There are seasons when everything seems to be going up. We’re growing, rejoicing, seeing prayers answered, and feeling strong in our faith. Then, suddenly life takes a drop we weren't expecting. Circumstances change. Disappointment comes. The path turns, and before we know it, we're wondering how we went from such a high place to such a low one.
But riding roller coasters recently reminded me of something: The ride didn't stay down.
Every time we dropped, eventually we started climbing again.
During my recent visit to the theme park, I finally faced my fears and rode the last coaster I needed to ride, to complete riding all eleven coasters at the park. There were twists I couldn't see coming, turns that threw me from side to side, and drops that made my stomach feel like it had been left somewhere at the top, not to mention five inversions! 😂 But none of them meant the ride was over. And neither do the low places in our lives.
Sometimes God allows us to walk through valleys, but the valley isn't necessarily our destination. A downward season doesn't mean you're going downward forever.
You may be in a dip right now, but keep holding on. You may not be able to see the next climb from where you're sitting, but God can.
The same God who was with you at the top is still beside you at the bottom. And sometimes the low places prepare us for the next place He's taking us. So yes, what goes up may come down—but don't forget that roller coasters go back up too!
Life has highs. Life has lows. There will be unexpected twists and turns along the way. But through every part of the ride, God remains steady. Hold on to Him.
This low place isn't the end of your ride. There's another climb ahead. 🎢🙌🏻
