Safe in the storms!

As a child, I was terrified of bad weather... one clap of thunder or flash of lightening and I was out of my bed running to my mama and daddy's bed... or if I was staying with my grandparents or great aunt's house, it was to their beds too. I remember my parents getting me out of bed to take us to the storm pit, or making us run to the bathroom we had, with no windows in it, for us to get in the bathtub with pillows over our head, or being at other relatives houses and going to the storm pits. I remember being terrified as a young child, the night the tornado came through Jemison, AL and destroyed the music park where they use to have big concerts. I was staying at my late great Aunt Emmer's house, and we didn't get to the storm pit in time, so we were caught in the house. The lights went out, and I was also terrified of the dark, she grabbed me up and got me to safe place in the house, and shielded my body with hers. The house was rattling, and it was as if the top of the house was going to tear of at any moment and suck us up. My Aunt Emmer prayed the whole time and sang the timeless song, "keep me safe 'til the storm passes by", and as the storm calmed, the next day there was so much damage, yet us and the house was untouched. I can't forget that night, nor her reminding me that the Lord was the reason why we were kept safe and how He sent His angels to cover us with protection. I remember another time, being in the storm pit with family, and a relative opened the door and the tornado was coming across the field straight for us. He begin praying for the Lord to turn that tornado around before it got to us, and with my own eyes I literally watched that tornado turn and go the other direction. This happened again. One night there was a tornado that came thru and those living around us had damage at their house the next morning, yet we did not. Neighbors were calling wanting to know if we were ok, and we had slept right through it! I had prayed the night before and God gave me peace admist the coming storms. As a child, I was depending on family to keep me safe, although they were part of it, it was ultimately the Lord keeping us safe too. I didn't get it or the prayers, until I was older and got saved. As I've continued growing in the Lord, my fear of storms and the dark has diminished. I truly understand now why those protecting me didn't show fear, didn't panic, and why they prayed during and before possible storms, and why they were truly at peace if something were to happen because they knew they were saved and would wake up in Heaven. I am thankful tonight, that I can say the same thing. I believe in a supernatural hedge of protection. I believe that Jesus can still say, "peace be still", and the storms have to obey!! Just as the disciples were afraid while Jesus was asleep in the boat, He awoke when they called Him, and asked them, "where is your faith?" I am reminded of this, everytime a storm comes up! And, though I do use common sense when bad weather is predicted, I can also go to sleep in peace knowing God has me shielded and protected thru whatever may come!! Trusting God and praying for safety during the storms!! Sincerely praying for others who may be afraid, that God will calm your nerves and also give you peace! *Psalm 91*
